EMDR Therapy in Liberty, MO

Trauma-focused care to help painful memories lose their grip.

Some experiences stay with us long after they're over. A car accident, a sudden loss, abuse, or a moment that shattered your sense of safety can keep replaying in nightmares, in panic that comes out of nowhere, or in the way your body tenses before you even know why.  You know the danger has passed, yet part of you still feels stuck there.

Healing is possible, even from what feels permanent.

WHAT IT IS

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a structured, research-supported therapy that helps your brain finish processing distressing memories that got "stuck" when they happened.

While you briefly bring a memory to mind, your therapist guides you through bilateral stimulation: side-to-side eye movements, alternating taps, or tones. Over time, the memory often feels less intense and less upsetting. You still remember what happened, but it no longer holds the same power over your body, your emotions, or what you believe about yourself.

You set the pace, and you can pause at any time. You don't have to describe every detail of what happened.

Integrate

Your therapist gets to know your history and goals, and teaches you calming skills so you feel steady before any memory work begins.

You focus on a target memory during short sets of bilateral stimulation while your therapist checks in with you along the way.

You strengthen healthier beliefs about yourself, notice what has shifted, and end each session feeling settled.

EMDR Therapy FAQ's

Is EMDR a form of hypnosis?

No. You are awake, aware and in control the entire time, and you can stop whenever you need to.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. EMDR doesn't require you to describe every detail out loud. Your therapist will only ask for what's needed to guide the work.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your history and goals. Some people notice change within a few sessions, while trauma that spans many years usually takes longer. Your therapist will talk through a plan with you.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes
